Diane Ley’s career has focused on advancing agriculture and rural economic development through public and non-profit service. She served 20+ years in county, state and federal executive leadership positions including Director of the County of Hawai`i Department of Research and Development, Deputy to the Chairperson for the Board of Agriculture and State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency for Hawai`i and the Pacific Basin. She also served more than a decade with the Hawai`i Farm Bureau, Hilo Main Street Program and previously operated a vegetable farm. Her current volunteer roles include Hawai`i Island representative to the Hawai`i Board of Agriculture and President of the Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai`i.
Diane’s recent work has engaged her passion for systems analysis into what is working well for Hawai`i agricultural producers and related identification of impactful legislation and programs. Her skill sets include formulation of public policy, with focus on what it takes to implement policy; strategic planning, including development of action plans and measures; non-profit organizational structure and systems; and editing. Diane is opportunity focused.
